A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hits Afghan border, causing tremors in Kashmir and Delhi-NCR region
Digital Desk: On Saturday afternoon, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake shocked the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, causing tremors to be felt throughout northern India, including Kashmir and the Delhi–NCR.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at 12:17 PM IST at a depth of 86 kilometers under the surface.
The epicentre was in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, which is prone to seismic activity due to geological shifts.
Mild to moderate tremors were felt in Kashmir Valley and Delhi-NCR, causing concern among locals. A video from Kashmir shows people scrambling out of a building as the ground shakes.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage on either side of the border.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 rocked Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region early Wednesday morning, causing movements in many regions of India, including Delhi-NCR, according to NCS.
The earthquake, which struck at a depth of 75 kilometers, was powerful enough to cause major damage near the epicenter.
