Amul and Mother Dairy Raise Milk Prices by ₹2/Litre Starting May 14
Digital Desk: Amul and Mother Dairy have announced a ₹2 per litre price increase on several milk variations, beginning May 14, marking the second jump in 13 months.
This change will have an impact on sales across the country and will apply to popular goods such as Amul Gold, Taaza, cow milk, and buffalo milk, as well as Mother Dairy's full cream and toned milk options. In the Delhi-NCR region, buffalo milk prices will increase by ₹4 per litre due to higher production expenses associated with this type.
Both cooperatives cited production and operational cost increases as reasons for a hike in milk prices. Mother Dairy raised farmer procurement prices by 6%, while Amul increased payments by 3.7% per kg of fat.
Approximately 75–80% of sales revenue supports farmers, promoting their welfare and ensuring supply. The price rise of 2.5–3.5% per litre, lower than average food inflation, may contribute to existing inflationary pressures, impacting household budgets. While farmers gain from increased payments, consumers may need to adjust their spending on milk.
