Austrian School Firing: 10 Killed In Mass Shooting, Shooter Dies By Suicide
Digital Desk: A Horrific incident took place on Tuesday, after ten people were fatally murdered at a school in Graz, Austria. According to local mayor Elke Kahr, the shooter committed suicide during the incident. She described the incident as a "terrible tragedy" in which both students and faculty were slain.
The mass shooting occurred at BORG Dreierschützengasse High School, and the culprit, who was also a student, apparently committed suicide during the attack.
The shooter's body was discovered in the school's restroom. The shooter's name and other facts are unknown at this time, but investigators believe he acted on his own.
Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner has confirmed he is on his way to Graz.
"Special forces were mobilized to the high school following a call at 10 a.m. (local time). Authorities are seeking to gain a better understanding of what transpired," police spokesperson Sabri Yorgun said, adding that an inquiry has commenced.
At 11:30 a.m. (local time), the Graz police announced on social media platform X that the school had been evacuated and children and staff had been relocated to a safe place. They also stated that there is no additional threat at the site, deeming it "secure".
Reportedly, nine students and one faculty member were shot dead in the incident, according to the details of the fatalities. At least ten additional people were hurt in the event and are being transported to a nearby hospital.
