Dalle Chilly from Sikkim exported to Solomon Islands

Digital Desk: The distinctive GI-tagged Dalle Chilly from Sikkim has arrived in the Solomon Islands, marking a significant step forward in the state's agricultural export journey.

The first shipment of 15,000 kg, facilitated by the union commerce and industry ministry's agricultural and processed food products export development authority, has opened up new global markets for organic goods from the Northeast.

Dalle Chilly, also known as Fire Ball Chilly or Dalle Khursani, is prized for its extreme heat and brilliant red color, as well as its high Scoville Heat Units and nutritional value, which includes vitamins A, C, and E.

Mevedir sourced the shipment from farmers and farmer producer organizations in South Sikkim.

This consignment assured farmers earned a higher price of Rs 250-300 per kg, as opposed to the customary Rs 180-200.

The shipment was handled at an APEDA-funded Integrated Pack House built by the Sikkim Horticulture Department, with 9000 kg dehydrated and 6000 kg preserved for future processing and export.
