Donald Trump's statement: soon to impose reciprocal tariffs on India and China

Digital Desk: US President Donald Trump has reiterated his intention to put reciprocal tariffs on countries such as India and China.

"We will soon implement reciprocal tariffs: they charge us, and we charge them. Whatever a corporation or country, such as India or China, charges, we want to be fair, which means reciprocal," Trump stated.

He continued, "We've never done that." We planned to do it when Covid arrived."

Prior to his bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump commented on India's tariff structure, claiming that India has "very high tariffs" and is a "hard place to do business."

Trump spoke during a news conference when questioned about Tesla CEO Elon Musk's meeting with Prime Minister Modi.

On the meeting of Modi-Musk, Trump stated that "They met. I assume he intends to do business in India. However, due to tariffs, doing business in India is extremely difficult. They charge the highest tariffs... It's a difficult area to do business. I'd suppose he met because he runs a business and is doing something he's been passionate about for a long time."

Trump claims that this policy promotes fairness in international trade.
