India airlifts 283 nationals rescued from Myanmar
Digital Desk: 283 Indians who were stranded at the Thai-Myanmar border following scam call centers in Myawaddy, Myanmar, were rescued by an Indian military aircraft, a C-17.
There will likely be another 240 repatriated soon. After being tricked into falling for online frauds, these Indian nationals were deceived with false job offers and kept in subpar conditions.
The Indian government restated warnings about such rackets, which had already been issued via advisories and social media posts.
Before accepting a job offer, Indian nationals should once again verify the credentials of foreign employers through Missions overseas and investigate the backgrounds of recruiting agents and companies, according to the MEA.
Earlier in December, the Indian Embassy in Myanmar confirmed the release of six Indian nationals held captive at job scam camps in Myanmar's Myawaddy.
According to the Indian Embassy in Myanmar, the six victims went to the local police station in Myawaddy to be deported to India. Since July 2024, 101 Indians have been deported to India, the embassy stated on X.
