Israel launches largest airstrikes in Gaza
Digital Desk: Israel says it began the wave of airstrikes over the Gaza Strip due to stalled discussions to prolong the ceasefire. It was unclear whether the operation was a one-time pressure tactic or the full resumption of the 17-month-old battle.
According to Palestinian doctors, Israel unleashed widespread airstrikes on Gaza early Tuesday, killing at least 200 people, including several children, and injuring several more.
Early Tuesday morning, Israel's Prime Minister's office stated it had ordered the army to target Hamas across the Gaza Strip.
The statement stated it was because Hamas continuously refused to free hostages and rejected offers from US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and mediators.
Israel promised to employ a 'growing military force'.
Hamas issued a statement condemning the recent attacks, calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable for "unprovoked escalation" against Palestinians.
Hamas warned that Israel's fresh bombings early Tuesday (March 18, 2025) violated their ceasefire and endangered prisoners' lives.
The strikes occur as the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is in uncertainty. The first part of the three-phase arrangement struck by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt began in mid-January and finished on March 1.
The second phase of negotiations has yet to be completed.
