Pakistan boosts security for LeT chief Hafiz Saeed by 4X after Pahalgam attack- Sources
Digital Desk: Pakistan has substantially increased security for Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Hafiz Saeed, who is suspected of masterminding the recent Pahalgam terror incident that killed 26 civilians, according to India Today TV sources.
The additional security protection includes a 24x7 deployment of armed soldiers from the Pakistan Armed Forces, as well as intensive surveillance measures around Saeed's known residence in Lahore, according to officials.
Following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Hafiz Saeed's house in Mohalla Johar Town, a heavily populated residential area in Lahore, has been subject to increased security measures.
According to insiders, the Pakistan Army, ISI, and Lashkar operatives are all working together to protect him. Drone surveillance has been deployed to monitor the compound, and high-resolution CCTV cameras have been installed on highways within a 4-kilometre radius.
Notably, Civilians are not permitted to approach the building, and drones are prohibited.
According to sources, the heightened security protocol was implemented shortly after the Pahalgam attack, which was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliate.
Though the TRF made the public claim, Indian agencies believe Hafiz Saeed played a key role in organizing the strike. The event has sparked new diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting strong reactions from both countries.
Despite having a USD 10 million bounty and being listed as a worldwide terrorist by the US and the UN, Saeed still lives freely in Pakistan. His home is in the centre of Lahore, surrounded by people, and is not secret or private.
Security around Saeed had already been tightened in 2021 after a vehicle bomb exploded near his home, killing three people. Following the death of his close aide Abu Qatal last month, his protection was strengthened once further, and Pakistani intelligence agencies are said to have examined the entire security setup.
