Sikkim Olympic Association gears up for 38th National Games in Uttarakhand
Digital Desk: The Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) in a press conference announced its preprations for the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand to be held from January 28 to February 14.
The games will take place in various locations, including Dehradun, Haldwani, Haridwar, Bhimtal, and Pithoragarh.
According to Jaslal Pradhan, SOA General Secretary, Sikkim will compete in five sports: athletics, boxing, archery, cycling, and women's football. The contingent consists of 41 players and five association officials.
The inaugural ceremony is scheduled for January 28, with PM Narendra Modi as the chief guest.
The SOA praised Sikkim's athletic community, highlighting Sandhya Gurung, a Dronacharya Award-winning women's boxing coach, and Padma Shri and Tarundeep Rai, four-time Olympians, representing the state in archery.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang introduced the team's official uniforms, featuring the "Sunaulo Sikkim, Samriddhi Sikkim" logo.
The SOA offered financial prizes for medalists, with gold, silver, and bronze medals each worth Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000, and Rs 50,000 respectively.
Teams will travel separately due to staggered schedules, with the women's football team leaving on January 25 to prepare for their matches.
