State of emergency announced in Bangkok after several massive earthquakes; tremors felt across northeast

Digital Desk: On March 28, Myanmar was struck by two consecutive earthquakes with Richter magnitudes of 7.7 and 6.4, respectively. Strong tremors shook Thailand's capital, Bangkok. Meghalaya and numerous northeastern states also felt aftershocks with a magnitude of 4.

The renowned Ava Bridge in Mandalay, Myanmar, crumbled into the Irrawaddy River as a result of the strong earthquakes, which had their epicenter in Sagaing.

The earthquakes had such an impact that vibrations rocked Bangkok, some 900 kilometers away, driving thousands to flee their homes. The vibrations caused water to pour out of pools in high-rises, and some buildings were evacuated as they swayed from the impact of the earthquake.

There were no immediate signs of damage or casualties in Thailand's capital.

A high-rise skyscraper under construction in Bangkok's Chatuchak neighborhood collapsed as a result of the earthquake. Several buildings were evacuated, and businesses remained closed for the day. There were no immediate reports of casualties in Thailand's capital.

In addition, several metro and rail services in Bangkok were suspended. Furthermore, terrifying footage surfaced on X, showing buildings and malls shaking violently and people fleeing into the streets in despair.
