Actor Deepika Padukone takes stand for 8-hour work shifts, says ‘burnout mistaken as commitment’

Digital Desk: Deepika Padukone recently talked about the working hours in the entertainment industry following her alleged departure from the films Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD.

Padukone's recent comments on the matter have highlighted the challenges actors face in terms of work schedules and workplace support. In a recent interview, the performer expressed her thoughts on working hours for actors.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar India, Padukone argued that an eight-hour work shift is optimum in the film industry. She underlined that such a balanced workweek might reduce stress and tiredness commonly associated with long and unpredictable shooting schedules, which would benefit individuals involved in film production.

"We have normalized overworking. We confuse exhaustion for devotion. Eight hours of work every day is adequate for the human body and mind. Only when you're healthy can you do your best. Bringing a burnt-out person back into the system benefits no one. Monday through Friday, my office staff works eight hours every day. We have maternity and paternity policies. "We should normalize bringing children to work," she stated.

Deepika welcomed her first child, Dua Padukone Singh, in September 2024. Earlier in May, she reportedly left Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Spirit'. Soon after, rumors circulated that she requested profit sharing and an eight-hour work shift, which apparently did not sit well with the director. Triptii Dimri was later cast alongside Prabhas.
