BCCI announces Rs 51 crore prize money for Indian women's team after glorious world cup win

Digital Desk: After the Indian women's cricket team's historic victory over South Africa in the ODI World Cup, the Indian Cricket Board announced a huge prize fund for the team on Monday.

In honor of their historic accomplishment, the team and support staff will receive a total prize money of Rs 51 crore, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed the media.

India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, cemented their place in cricket history by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the Women's World Cup final.

"ICC Chairman Jay Shah declared last month that the prize money for women would increase by 300 percent. The prize fund, which was previously $3.88 million, has now grown to $14 million. Furthermore, the BCCI has chosen to award a total of Rs 51 crore to the entire Indian team, including the players, coaches, selectors, and support personnel, according to Devajit Saikia.

Almost three times as much money will be awarded in the 2025 Women's World Cup as was given out in the 2022 competition in New Zealand, with a total prize pool of Rs 116 crore.

This year's tournament is historic because it fulfills the ICC's pledge to pay gender parity by offering equal prize money for the men's and women's World Cups for the first time. The prize pool even exceeds the Rs 84 crore total from the 2023 Men's World Cup.
