Rohit Sharma Breaks World Record for Most ODI Sixes, Overtakes Shahid Afridi

Digital Desk: Rohit Sharma set a new world record for the highest number of sixes in ODI history in a remarkable way in Ranchi on Sunday, overtaking Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi with three massive shots against South Africa during the first ODI at the JSCA International Stadium.

Rohit Sharma hit his 350th ODI six with a powerful slog-sweep off South African off-spinner Prenalen Subrayan over cow corner and went on to replicate the shot on the next delivery to match Afridi at 351 maximums in 100 fewer innings.

Rohit accomplished the milestone in merely his 277th match. He was the first player to score 350 sixes in fewer than 300 matches. Rohit struck consecutive sixes against Prenelan Subrayen to match Shahid Afridi's record for the most sixes. He then hit a six off Marco Jansen to become the top six-hitter in ODIs.

So far, these players remain the highest-ranked for hitting the most sixes- Rohit Sharma, with 352 of 277 games, Shahid Afridi ranked 2nd with 351 of 398 games, 3rd is Chris Gayle with 331 in 301 games, Sanath Jayasuriya, ranked 4th with 270 in 445 games, and the 5th rank is held by MS Dhoni with 229 sixes in 350 matches.
