Kannada actor Ranya Rao confessed her crimes of holding 17 gold bars and several trips to US, Europe, Dubai
Digital Desk: Days after being arrested at Bengaluru Airport in a gold smuggling case, Kannada actress Ranya Rao confessed to the crime and informed the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) that she had visited not only Dubai but also Europe, America, and the Middle East.
According to India Today TV, Ranya Rao made her first official statement to the DRI, admitting that police seized 17 gold bars from her possession. However, the Kannada star has not provided any information to authorities and has requested time to "take some rest".
Rao, the stepdaughter of Director General of Police (Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation) Ramachandra Rao, was being closely monitored by authorities due to her frequent trips to Dubai. According to reports, she has visited the city 30 times in the last year, four of which occurred within 15 days, allegedly carrying kilos of gold on each trip.
In the statement recorded during questioning, Ranya Rao stated, "I accept that 17 gold bars were seized from my possession. I would want to suggest that you keep the proceedings as quiet as possible.
The Kannada star also claimed that she had visited numerous nations. "I've traveled to Europe, America, and the Middle East, including Dubai, Saudi Arabia. I'd want to express that I'm exhausted right now since I didn't get enough rest," she remarked.
Ranya Rao also underlined her willingness to fully collaborate with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in the continuing probe. She further stated that she was not coerced and that her testimony was provided by choice.
As reported by DRI, gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore were confiscated from Ranya Rao at Kempegowda International Airport, and searches were carried out at her apartment, uncovering gold jewelry worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian money worth Rs 2.67 crore.
