Preity Zinta furious over Loan Claim post, says, "Shame On You" to Kerala Congress

Digital Desk: Actress Preity Zinta has slammed the Kerala unit of the Congress for alleging that she got a Rs 18-crore loan from the crisis-hit New India Cooperative Bank written off by "giving her social media accounts to the BJP," accusing the party of indulging in "vile gossip" and claiming that the loan was paid back in full over ten years ago. The party later stated that it had just supplied the information as reported.

On Monday, the Kerala Congress's X handle retweeted a message from a news outlet that read, "She gave her social media accounts to BJP and got 18 Cr written off, and the bank collapsed last week..." Depositors are on the streets waiting for their money."

On Tuesday, Bollywood actress Preity Zinta responded by claiming that she runs her own social media accounts and accusing the Congress of propagating "fake news".

She clarified that a loan was discovered but paid back, saying, "For the record, a loan was taken and fully paid back over ten years ago. I hope this clarifies and helps to avoid future misconceptions."

The Kerala Congress' article now has a community note that reads, "Preity Zinta has clarified from her Twitter handle that it is fake," and links to the actor's statement.

In response to her post, the Kerala Congress stated that Ms Zinta's name was featured in press reports on the matter.

It also tweeted an excerpt of the report with the caption, "Good to know you're managing your own account, unlike other celebrities who have handed theirs over to the notorious IT cell." Thanks for clarifying your loan position, @realpreityzinta. We are happy to accept any mistakes we may have made."
