Sophie Devine calls her time for ODI retirement after NZ vs ENG match

Digital Desk: New Zealand captain Sophie Devine has announced her retirement from ODI cricket, following her team's final group-stage match against England in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025.

Devine's final ODI at Visakhapatnam's ACA-VDCA Stadium marked the end of her 20-year career, with her colleagues and opponents forming a guard of honour to honor her outstanding performance.

With 23 runs off 35 balls and one wicket in her 159th and final ODI appearance, the 36-year-old all-rounder concluded her career.

We wanted to end on a high note, but that didn't happen today. I don't mean to brag. Well done, England. In reality, I didn't cry as much as I had anticipated," Devine said.

The benefit of making my retirement announcement early was that it gave me time to deal with the feelings. Today was more about finishing it off with my friends than it was about the outcome. Having done this for 19 years just makes me feel so humbled," she continued.

Devine leaves a remarkable record of 4,279 runs at an average of 32.66, which includes 18 fifties and 9 hundreds. Her best numbers against the West Indies in 2018 were 3/24, and she took 111 wickets with the ball.

Moreover, Sophie Devine's ODI career is the second-longest among New Zealand cricketers.
