South Korean Actor Kim Sae-Ron passes away at 24
Digital desk: Kim Sae-Ron, a South Korean actor, was found dead at her apartment in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, police said on Sunday. Sae Ron, who last appeared in Netflix's web series Bloodhounds in 2023, was 24. While the cause of her death is unknown, police are investigating the situation.
According to rumors, Sae Ron was scheduled to meet a friend on Sunday. When the friend got to her residence, they found her body and immediately called the police. The cause of Sae Ron's death is still being investigated, but officials have found no evidence of criminal involvement, according to a police spokesperson.
Kim Sae Ron made her acting debut as a child in Ounie Lecomte's A Brand New Life (2009). Her most prominent accomplishment, however, is her role in the neo-noir action movie The Man from Nowhere (2010), which also stars South Korean actor Won Bin. The film was South Korea's highest-grossing picture of the year.
She also appeared in several films, including I Am a Dad (2011), Listen to My Heart (2011), and The Neighbor (2012). She began landing lead roles in 2015, and her career progressed significantly until 2022. Her significant work during this time period includes Snowy Road (2015), Secret Healer (2016), The Villagers (2018), Leverage (2019), and The Great Shaman Ga Doo-shim (2021).
However, her career suffered a setback in 2022 after a drunk driving incident in Seoul. She smashed into an electrical transformer while under the influence of alcohol, was arrested, and her driver's license was canceled. In April 2023, a judge fined her 20 million won ($13,850). Kim came under great scrutiny following the event, as drunk driving is highly prohibited in South Korean society. She was subjected to vicious bullying and harassment on social media, which finally ended her career because she was unable to acquire any new roles.
Despite the setback, Sae Ron was apparently preparing a comeback. In an interview with local media, Osen, an acquaintance disclosed that the actor was preparing to return to the industry with the film The Guitar Man, as well as opening a café.
