Star WK and batter of South Africa, Heinrich Klaasen announces retirement from Int. cricket
Digital Desk: The cricket world is baffled after learning of two major names on the retirement list. After Glenn Maxwell, South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen has announced his retirement from international cricket, stating that he wants to spend more time with his family. The 33-year-old announced via social media on June 2.
Klaasen, famed for his explosive power and middle-order consistency, has scored 2,141 runs in ODIs, 1,000 in T20Is, and 104 in Tests, with four international hundreds.
His decision comes just months after he represented South Africa in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which the Proteas lost in the semi-finals to New Zealand.
Klaasen, in his Instagram post, stated, "It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket."

Klaasen, who currently holds the world record for the greatest individual ODI score by a No. 5 batsman, debuted against India in 2018. He was recognized for his patience against spin and consistency under pressure.
Klaasen played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025, helping the team finish sixth. He earned his second IPL century, 105 runs, in the team's final encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025.
This decision comes shortly after Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell's surprise retirement announcement from ODI cricket earlier that day. Klaasen's departure from the cricket world adds to the shocks in the cricketing community.
