TasteAtlas 2025 lists out, India’s butter garlic naan tops global bread rankings
Digital Desk: Indians have long understood the enchantment of biting into smacking taste of hot, buttery garlic naan. With a remarkable rating of 4.7 out of 5, TasteAtlas declared butter garlic naan the best bread in the world in its March 2025 rankings.
This bread has long been a mainstay on Indian dinner tables because it is light and soft, has a delicious garlic scent, and has a lot of butter. Yogurt, sugar, salt, and white flour are used to make it. The dough is rolled out and baked in a tandoor, a clay oven that is extremely hot. They brush it with butter or ghee to make it melt in your mouth once it's golden and puffy.
Second place went to Amritsari Kulcha, another popular Punjabi dish with a crispy crust and a spicy potato filling.
In recognition of the subcontinent's common culinary heritage, Malaysia's Roti Canai, which has Indian origins, took third place. India's Parotta and Colombia's Pan de Bono completed the top five, demonstrating how flavor, fire, and dough cut across national boundaries.
TasteAtlas acknowledged a number of other Indian breads on its list: for its healthy, stuffed varieties, Paratha was ranked no. 18, Parotta came in at number 6, and traditional Naan held 8th rank, Roti (35th), Bhatura (26th), and Aloo Naan (28th) also made the rankings.
The journey from Butter garlic naan to kulcha, India’s favourite bread, has officially found its true place on the world’s table.
