Vaani Kapoor and Fawad Khan starrer Abir Gulaal to face ban in India ahead of its release: sources
Digital Desk: Following the Pahalgam terror attack, official sources announced on Thursday that the Hindi film Abir Gulaal, which stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, would not be permitted to be released in India.
The film, directed by Aarti S Bagdi and starring Vaani Kapoor, was due to release in Indian cinemas on May 9.
The action comes after 26 people, largely tourists, were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, on Tuesday, prompting calls for the film's prohibition. It has been regarded as the bloodiest attack in the Valley since the Pulwama massacre in 2019.
On Wednesday, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) reiterated its decision to ban Pakistani artists. "In light of the recent attack in Pahalgam, FWICE is once again compelled to issue a blanket boycott on all Pakistani artists, singers and technicians participating in any Indian film or entertainment projects," the organization's statement continued.
