Digital desk: Vicky Kaushal's period epic Chhaava has achieved a strong opening at the box office. The Laxman Utekar-directed movie has broken multiple records while getting mixed reviews.

The film had the largest opening of 2025. It also overtook Gully Boy's record for the highest Valentine's Day collection by an Indian film. In addition, Chhaava became Vicky's most successful opener yet.

According to Sacnilk, Chhaava fared well on its first day, grossing almost Rs 31 crore (nett) across all languages. On its opening day, the film received an overall occupancy rate of 35.17% in Hindi.

With this astonishing number, Chhaava has become Vicky Kaushal's biggest opener, easily beating Uri: The Surgical Strike's record of Rs 8.20 crore.

It is now the biggest opening movie of 2025, surpassing even Akshay Kumar's Sky Force, which made Rs 15.30 crore on its first day of release last month.

Furthermore, Chhaava exceeded Gully Boy's 2019 record of Rs 19.40 crore, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film on Valentine's Day.

Chhaava is a historical action film directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. It is based on the life of Maratha ruler Sambhaji, played by Vicky Kaushal.

Rashmika Mandanna plays Maharani Yesubai, Akshaye Khanna portrays Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana plays Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, and Divya Dutta plays Soyarabai.

It is an adaptation of Shivaji Sawant's Marathi novel Chhava.  A.R. Rahman composed the film's score and soundtrack, and Irshad Kamil wrote the lyrics.
