‘One Northeast’ front formed to unite regional voices
Digital Desk: In a landmark move towards greater regional unity, prominent leaders from four Northeast states have announced the formation of a single political entity aimed at collectively voicing the aspirations and concerns of the people of Northeast India.
The announcement was made at a media briefing in New Delhi on Tuesday, jointly by Meghalaya chief minister and NPP president Conrad Sangma, TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Debbarma, former BJP spokesperson M Kikon and Daniel Langthasa from the People’s Party of Assam.
Speaking to the media, Conrad Sangma said the leaders had decided to work together for a distinct political identity for the Northeast and that a committee had been constituted to draft the framework of the new entity within 45 days.
He emphasized that the initiative was not an adversarial move against any existing political party but rather a step toward creating a unified voice for the region.
He added that the committee will also reach out to other political parties and regional groups across the Northeast.
Sangma added that protecting indigenous land rights and ensuring equitable development would be among the core objectives of the new platform.
