Digital Desk: Bishworjit Konthoujam from Manipur has become the first cricketer from the state to be signed by an English club under the England Cricket Board.

This is being seen as a breakthrough moment in cricket culture in the Northeast region of India.

Bishworjit Konthoujam hails from Patsoi in the Imphal West district of Manipur.

He has been a standout performer in domestic cricket since his 2018 debut for Manipur.

He finished as Manipur's leading wicket-taker and was ranked in the top ten bowlers in India during the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season after taking 30 wickets in eight games.

Leading Manipur's bowling attack in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023–24, he maintained his steady play throughout the recent seasons.

Konthoujam collected 42 wickets in all forms during the 2024-25 season, solidifying his reputation as a consistent bowler.

Konthoujam's biggest task yet is adjusting his bowling to the unique conditions of northern England, where swing and seam movement will put his technical skills to the test as the English season begins on April 19.
