Forest fire threatens tourist hotspot Reiek Tlang in Mizoram

Digital Desk: A major forest fire is presently growing at the popular tourist location Reiek Tlang in Mizoram, with local sources indicating that it was started by a fire used for jhumming, a traditional shifting agriculture practice.

Efforts to suppress the fire are still ongoing, but authorities and local volunteers face significant challenges. The rough terrain and strong winds have exacerbated firefighting operations, raising concerns about the fire's spread.

Fears are mounting over the potential harm to animals, particularly the state animal, the Saza (Serow), and the fragile ecology that surrounds Reiek Tlang.

Authorities are asking farmers to build fire lines and stay watchful against uncontrolled fires. Residents are also encouraged to remain vigilant while efforts are made to contain the fire and avert more harm.
