ICC Champions Trophy: Pakistan knocked out of major 50-over tournament and set an unwanted record by failing to win

Digital Desk: Pakistan's Champions Trophy campaign came to an end in Rawalpindi on Thursday, February 27, as their final Group A game against Bangladesh was called off due to rain.

The 2017 winners finished without a win in Group A, becoming the first team in 23 years to be eliminated from the prestigious 50-over tournament.

While Bangladesh did not participate in the first-ever ICC Knockout event despite hosting it, Kenya fell in the tournament's pre-quarterfinals in 2000, which was held by Nairobi.

Since the tournament's updating as Champions Trophy in 2002, host teams have always won at least one match. In 2006 and 2009, India and South Africa finished last in their groups but managed to win at least one game each.

Pakistan, who hosted an ICC tournament for the first time in three decades, finished last in Group A, trailing Bangladesh with a low Net Run Rate (-1.087).

Meanwhile, India and New Zealand had qualified for the semi-finals, defeating Pakistan and Bangladesh.
