IMD issues red alert for all Northeast states
Digital Desk: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next 48 hours for the Northeastern states.
Over the next 48 hours, the IMD has predicted that the Northeast will experience heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning, and powerful squalls.
As a distinct low-pressure system remains over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Odisha, and a cyclonic circulation associated with it is expected to intensify into a depression during the following day, the alert is being issued.
Because of the extreme weather warning, the Mizoram government has ordered all schools in the state to close on Thursday.
The worst of the severe weather is predicted to hit Assam, especially its southern and western regions.
High-risk areas have been identified in a number of locations, including Cachar, Hailakandi, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, West Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Chirang, and several more.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority has issued an advisory to citizens, particularly those in Guwahati, to stay indoors during heavy rain.
