India Asia Cup 2025 name list announced; SKY handed captaincy while Shubman Gill makes comeback as VC
Digital Desk: Months of speculation came to an end on Tuesday after the BCCI announced the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025. Shubman Gill returned to the T20I setup as Suryakumar Yadav's deputy, as SKY was handed the role of captaincy, while Gill was announced as the vice captain of the team.
Since June 2024, Gill has played for the national team in the shortest format.
But while Kuldeep Yadav returned to the team after missing the England T20I series at the start of the year, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal were left out. Along with pace star Jasprit Bumrah,Rinku Singh also got an entry into the squad list.

Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal are currently put on standby.
Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector, stated that this is not the final roster for the 2026 T20 World Cup.In regards to Bumrah's workload management, Agarkar stated, "We are attempting to take care of him." "He will have to wait," Agarkar said in reference to standby Jaiswal.
On September 9, India will begin its campaign against the United Arab Emirates. On September 14, they will play their highly anticipated match against Pakistan. On October 19, the Men in Blue will play their final group stage match against Oman.
In just six months, the continental tournament is going back to the T20 format for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka. On the way to the 2023 Cricket World Cup, India crushed hosts Sri Lanka to win the Asia Cup, which was played in the ODI format the year before.
Although the BCCI is the official host, eight teams will compete in the tournament, which will take place in a neutral venue in the United Arab Emirates.
In addition to Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman will compete with one another.
