India for England Tour: Squad list out now; Captaincy rule handed over to Shubman Gill
Digital Desk: Following the BCCI's announcement of the team for the Test series against England on Saturday, Shubman Gill was named Team India's new Test captain.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah will not be able to take on a leadership role in Test cricket since wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been selected as the new vice-captain.
Ajit Agarkar, chairman of selectors, revealed the roster, leaving out notable players like batter Shreyas Iyer and pacer Mohammed Shami. After stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket, a new era is anticipated to start for India.
Agarkar stated "When guys like Rohit, Virat and Ashwin retire, there are always big holes to fill. Those three have been stalwarts. They've earned that respect."
Here's the list released by the BCCI selectors team: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, B Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
