Digital Desk: Shubhanshu Shukla, an Indian astronaut and part of the Axiom 4 mission, which is about to end its 14-day stay at the International Space Station.
The spaceship will splash down in the Pacific Ocean on July 15 at 3 Ms.4 IST after undocking on July 14 at 4 Ms.4. On June 26, Shukla and three other astronauts docked to the ISS, where they carried out several experiments.
Shukla made a major contribution to India's Gaganyaan human spaceflight effort by carrying out seven experiments on the orbital platform that were unique to India.
Among other things, these included developing a brain-computer interface, growing fenugreek and green gram seeds in space, and attempting to interpret muscle atrophy.
The four astronauts finished experiments with the Indian strain of Tardigrades, which examined transcriptome, survival, revival, and reproduction; Myogenesis, which examined how the space environment affected human muscle cells; the sprouting of methi and moong seeds, which deals with crew nutrition; and the Cyanobacteria experiment, which examined the development of two types related to life support systems.
The experiments mark a major advancement in space science and technology, providing vital information to support future planetary missions, Bhartiya Antariksha Station, and Gaganyaan.
The astronauts will have to adjust to Earth's gravity for seven days after their return.
