Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya gets a big relief; execution postponed by 24 hours

Digital Desk: The execution of Nimisha Priya has been put off because there are a lot of talks going on in Yemen to try to save the nurse from Kerala, who was sentenced to death by local authorities for killing a man who was harassing her.

Ms. Priya was supposed to be executed tomorrow, but the family of the man she killed has now agreed to put it off at least until tomorrow. Moreover, the relief won't let her execution stop or send her back to India.

The Yemeni government has put off the execution of Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, which has made her family and others, including the political leaders in the southern state, breathe a sigh of relief. Additionally, now a chance stands for the death row prisoner's execution to be delayed as of now.

People in New Delhi said that the Indian government has been working hard in the last few days to give Priya's family more time to reach a "mutually agreeable" solution with the other party.

The execution was supposed to happen on Wednesday. Priya, who is from Kollengode in Kerala's Palakkad district, was found guilty of killing a Yemeni citizen in July 2017.

Priya's husband thanked everyone who helped out with the cause.

Thomas said they have a daughter in class XIII and that they have kept her away from these events.

He said Priya's mother told him that the execution had been put off.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister, said that the delay in the execution was both comforting and full of hope.

He stated that the ruling has allowed Priya more time to seek relief from her death sentence.

Vijayan stated that development was made possible by the initiative and assistance of renowned Sunni Muslim scholar Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar.

Earlier, the cleric's office stated that last-minute efforts were being undertaken to delay Priya's scheduled execution on July 16, led by a Sufi scholar there at the request of Aboobacker Musliyar.

He praised Kanthapuram and all those trying to bring Nimisha Priya justice, particularly the Action Council.

According to Samuel Jerome Baskaran, a member of the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, the execution was postponed due to the involvement of the influential Shaikh Abdul Malik Nahyan, who is the head of the victim's tribe.
