The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) congratulated Ravichandran Ashwin for receiving the prestigious Padma Shri award, from President Droupadi Murmu as part of the 2025 Padma recipients list.
Ashwin is one of many Indian cricket players who have received the Padma Shri, the 4th highest Padma honour.
A video of Ashwin accepting the accolade from the President was also released by the Indian Board. "Congratulations to Ravi Ashwin on being conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Hon'ble President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan, honoring his remarkable achievements and an illustrious career with Team India," the BCCI posted.
Ashwin has proven to be an imposing presence in Test cricket, both with the ball and the bat. He resigned from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024.
Surprised by Ashwin's decision to quit, his last appearance was in India's home series against New Zealand in 2024, during which Ashwin failed to make an impact, marking one of his few home failures. Prior to it, his exclusion from India's squad for the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Perth Test raised concerns among fans and critics about his future with the team.
