Jos Buttler resigns as England’s white-ball captain

Digital Desk: Jos Buttler announced on Friday (February 28, 2025) that he will resign as England's white-ball captain following a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign in which the team failed to reach the semifinals.

Following a five-wicket defeat by archrival Australia in its Champions Trophy opener, England was eliminated on Wednesday in Lahore, Pakistan, after losing by eight runs to tournament debutant Afghanistan.

Buttler, who previously stated that he would ponder his future as England's captain but would not make any emotional judgments, has overseen 22 losses in 34 One-Day Internationals since replacing the retired Eoin Morgan in June 2022.

The 34-year-old led England to its second T20 World Cup victory in 2022, but the team's performance has fallen since then, with the side unable to defend its T20 or ODI World Cup titles.
