Manipur: Curfew relaxed in Churachandpur district except five areas

Digital Desk: With the exception of five areas, the total curfew, which was imposed in the Churachandpur district of Manipur, has been relaxed from 6 am to 5 pm between April 9 and 17.

This relaxation in curfew timings has been promulgated to allow the residents of the district access to essential items and services.

Curfew was imposed in the Churachandpur district of Manipur under Section 163 of the BNSS.

However, the relaxation shall not apply to Reng-kai village and V Mun-hoih, where the total curfew remains in force.

The total curfew also stays enforced in Kang-vai, Sa-mulam-lan and San-gai-kot subdivisions under the Churachandpur district of Manipur.

Tension erupted between the Zomi and Hmar tribes on April 08 after flags of both the communities were raised in a disputed area between the V Mun-hoih and Rengkai villages.

The village authorities of Rengkai and V Mun-hoih held a meeting in the presence of the Churachandpur deputy commissioner and SP and asked people to maintain peace and not spread rumours on social media.

The meeting agreed that the land dispute between the two villages was a settlement issue and not a communal one, and it would be resolved by the two village authorities.

Earlier, on March 18, one person was killed and several others were injured in clashes between the Zomi and Hmar tribes in Churachandpur district.
