Manipur: Kuki-Zo student bodies call for shutdown on May 3

Digital Desk: Two Kuki-Zomi student organisations, the Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) and Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), have called for a shutdown in areas of Manipur on May 3 in remembrance of the ethnic violence that occurred between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo tribes two years ago.

In observance of the violence, the student organisations have called on all businesses and educational institutions to close and observe the day in quiet.

They have also asked people to hoist black flags at their homes and participate in mass prayers and public gatherings.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum or the ITLF has declared May 3 as "Separation Day," with events including prayers, keynote addresses, and speeches by tribal leaders.

The shutdown call comes amid ongoing tensions in the state, where over 250 people have died and thousands have been displaced in the conflict.
