Manipur: Section 163 BNSS imposed in Churachandpur
Digital Desk: Section 163 of BNSS has been imposed in the Churachandpur district of Manipur after tensions escalated in the district following an assault on a Hmar tribal leader.
As per the order issued by the additional district magistrate of Churachandpur district, the assembly of five or more persons, carrying of arms and other weapon-like objects have been prohibited.
The order came into effect on Monday.
According to reports, tensions are running high in Churachandpur after Richard Hmar, the general secretary of the Hmar Inpui organization was allegedly attacked by unidentified miscreants inside the VK Montessori complex at Zen-hang Lamka on Sunday evening.
The assault was allegedly the result of an altercation caused by a near-collision between his vehicle and a two-wheeler.
Protesters have now attempted to impose a shutdown in the town, with groups of men with sticks patrolling the streets and reports of stone-throwing in some locations.
In response, the Churachandpur district administration enforced Section 163 of BNSS, citing a serious threat to public order and the potential for communal tensions.
Condemning the attack, Hmar Inpui demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the attack.
