Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla extends deadline for arms surrender till 4 PM of March 6
Digital Desk: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has extended the deadline for surrendering plundered and illegal weaponry.
The deadline will be extended till 4 p.m. on March 6.
This extension of the deadline comes after residents from both hill and valley communities requested more time to relinquish unlawfully owned weapons.
In a release, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla stated that no punitive action will be taken against individuals who surrendered their weapons during this period.
He emphasized that this extension will be the final opportunity for everyone involved to contribute to peace and societal harmony.
Governor Bhalla had encouraged warring parties on February 20 to voluntarily relinquish guns stolen from security forces and other unlawfully held arms within seven days—a deadline that expired on Thursday.
During the first round of the Manipur governor's guns surrender ultimatum, hundreds of people surrendered looted and unlawfully held weapons to authorities.
On February 27, Arambai Tenggol, a valley-based Meitei organization, surrendered over 250 guns to officials at the 1st Manipur Rifles campus.
