Manipur implements strict Aadhaar verification process
Digital Desk: The Aadhaar enrollment and updation process in Manipur is among the most stringent in the country, particularly for individuals above the age of 18 seeking a new Aadhaar card.
This was stated by Manipur chief secretary Prashant Kumar Singh.
Speaking to reporters, Singh said that the verification process is designed to ensure thorough scrutiny and prevent misuse.
The Manipur chief secretary stated that according to a deputy director from UIDAI-Guwahati, Manipur has one of the toughest Aadhaar issuance procedures in the Northeast.
For any adult applicant, the process involves multiple layers of verification.
Once an individual above 18 applies at a designated Aadhaar enrollment center, the application is forwarded to the state home department.
A physical verification is then conducted by the special home secretary to confirm the applicant’s identity and their connection to the state.
The chief secretary said that only after a proper inquiry and confirmation that the person belongs to Manipur, an Aadhaar card is issued.
Manipur chief secretary Prashant Kumar Singh emphasized that the rigorous system has been put in place to maintain the integrity of the Aadhaar database in Manipur.
Officials say the process may be time-consuming, but it ensures that Aadhaar cards are issued only to genuine residents.
