Meghalaya: Activist Meneka Gandhi takes note of 'illegal bullfighting', NE News gets credit for the story coverage
Digital Desk: In a big NE News impact, former union minister and animal rights activist Meneka Gandhi has taken note of the illegal bullfighting event that was organized at Smit village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.
The incident dates back to January 10 this year, when a planned festival in Smit village stirred controversy, with reports of illegal activities, including bullfighting, leading to police and district officials intervening.
Taking note of the illegal bullfighting incident, former union minister and founder of People for Animals Meneka Gandhi spoke to Meghalaya chief secretary Donald Phillips Wahlang.
In her conversation with the Meghalaya chief secretary, Meneka Gandhi urged him to initiate necessary measures and actions to prevent such incidents from reoccurring in the future.
Moreover, a social activist from Meghalaya, Joannes JTL Lamare, also appreciated NE News for covering the illegal activities at the festival that included betting and gambling, besides bullfighting.
Lamare thanked NE News for covering the story, which he said might go a long way in creating awareness among the people of Meghalaya about animal rights.
