Meghalaya: Pynshngain Kurbah ends long drought, wins medal at National Games

Digital Desk: Pynshngain Kurbah of Meghalaya has won bronze in canoeing at the 38th National Games, now hosted in Uttarakhand.

Finely L. Pariat, the general secretary of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), informed about the great win by Pynshngain Kurbah.

Pynshngain's medal is Meghalaya's first at this level and in this sport. It also marks the conclusion of a long wait for a medal in the National Games, with the state's last coming in 2015 - Meghalaya drew blanks in 2022 and 2023.

However, the MSOA appeared to have minimal expectations for its athletes. It did not give them a proper send-off, blaming the short period between the Meghalaya Games and the National Games.

"You're asking about medals like you don't know that this government only began planting the seed in 2022, so how will we get medals?" Pariat said in response to a reporter's question regarding Meghalaya's medal total.

In addition to praising Pynshngain, Pariat praised Ian and Sheila Vincent for being the driving forces behind the promotion of canoeing, kayaking, and similar activities in Meghalaya.

The Games began on January 28 and are slated to end on February 14.
