N. Biren Singh calls for end to President’s Rule in Manipur

Digital Desk: Former Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has called for restoration of a democratically elected government in the state. N. Biren said that prolonged President’s Rule is harming public welfare and governance in Manipur.

Speaking to the media, the former Manipur chief minister claimed that he was forced to resign from his post due to prevailing circumstances.

N. Biren urged that democratic rule be reinstated in Manipur without further delay.

He remarked that the current state of affairs under President’s Rule has only deepened the crisis and made government functioning more inaccessible to both the public and elected representatives.

He claimed that even MLAs now feel hesitant to visit government offices.

The former chief minister pointed out that the public is well aware of the circumstances under which President’s Rule was imposed and that continuing it any longer would be detrimental to the state’s progress.

It may be mentioned here that President’s Rule was extended in Manipur for another six months after the Rajya Sabha recently passed a resolution to extend the President’s Rule in the North-east state.

The fresh extension of President’s Rule in Manipur will come into effect on August 13.
