Nagaland Governor La Ganesan passes away; state declares seven-day mourning

 

Digital Desk: In observance of Governor La Ganesan, who died on August 15 at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the Nagaland government has proclaimed seven days of state mourning.

Ganesan, who was transferred to the Nagaland Raj Bhavan in February 2023 after serving as the governor of Manipur since 2021, passed away on Friday night after receiving treatment in the intensive care unit for a few days, according to a Kohima Raj Bhavan spokesperson. On August 8, he passed out at his residence in Chennai and was taken to the hospital.

The state government announced in an official notification that "seven days of state mourning will be observed from August 16 to 22, 2025, throughout the state; there shall be no official entertainment by the state government departments."

CM Rio had earlier expressed sorrow at the loss when he learned of Ganesan's passing. According to him, the late Ganesan was a man of moral strength, integrity, principle, and great wisdom.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu of India also offered their condolences on Friday night.
