Non-performing employees to receive voluntary pensions from Mizoram government

Digital Desk: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma stated that the newly announced Special Voluntary Retirement Scheme will provide voluntary pensions to government personnel who are no longer able to execute their tasks for a variety of reasons.

He stated that service review committees are being formed in all departments to identify non-performing staff who are unable to complete their jobs for a variety of reasons, including medical concerns.

"Our government has set up a separate voluntary pension scheme for employees. Any employee who is no longer fit to perform his or her duties is expected to apply for a voluntary pension through the scheme.

We are not attempting to fire the personnel, but rather to provide them with an opportunity for an honorable exit," CM stated to the assembly.

Lalduhoma's Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) government pledged to end the unlawful hiring of proxies and ensure service quality improvement, aiming for a strong government.

"Over 3,365 government employees from 44 departments in Mizoram have hired proxies for various reasons, with over 2,000 citing health issues and 703 citing domestic problems," according to data obtained by other departments.

The state government directed these employees to submit proxies within 45 days. Currently, there are no reports of employees hiring proxies, but the government intends to take action against any who do.

The Mizoram Special Voluntary Retirement Scheme, 2024, enables regular employees covered by the CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972, and those covered by the Mizoram New Defined Contributory System, 2010, to seek voluntary retirement under the scheme.
