Rajya Sabha allocates two hours for discussion of Manipur's extension of President's Rule
Digital Desk: The Rajya Sabha has set a two-hour debate on the resolution extending President's Rule in Manipur for another six months, beginning August 13.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh announced the decision during a Business Advisory Committee meeting.
The resolution, which could be debated later this week, concerns the extension of the February 13, 2025, proclamation made under Article 356 of the Constitution.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Minister of Cooperation had earlier informed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat that the House would be requested to accept the extension of President's Rule for another six months.
In order to stabilize the situation and lay down the groundwork for the eventual return of democratic governance to the state ravaged by violence, the extension of central rule is viewed as necessary.
