Rohit Sharma says, 'Unreal feeling' after getting honored to have stand named after him at Wankhede

Digital Desk: India skipper Rohit Sharma professed his joy and thanks after getting a stand named after him at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Earlier this month, on Tuesday, April 15, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) approved a petition to name one of the stands after the Indian skipper during the association's Annual General Meeting.

The MCA revealed that batsman Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar will also get stands at the Wankhede Stadium. Milind Narvekar, an MCA apex council member, proposed Rohit, Wadekar, and Pawar for approval.

The Divecha Pavilion Level 3 will now be known as the Rohit Sharma Stand. Legendary cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Vijay Merchant, Sunil Gavaskar, and Dilip Vengsarkar have stands named after them at Wankhede Stadium. Rohit, 37, was stunned by the accolade after representing India for 18 years, beginning in 2007.

Rohit stated during the inauguration ceremony for the third season of the Mumbai T20 League, which begins on May 26, "Now to sit back and think that there is going to be a stadium stand in my game, it is such an unreal feeling."

Rohit Sharma has been key in India's recent success, having led the team to victories in the Men's T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy 2025, and Men's ODI World Cup 2023. He was also a member of the Indian squad that won the 2007 Men's T20 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Rohit is India's fourth-highest run scorer in international cricket, with 19,700 runs in 499 matches.
