Tensions flare in Garbhanga along Assam-Meghalaya border
Digital Desk: Officials claim that tensions started when the local government of Meghalaya purportedly held a meeting without prior authorization inside Assam territory.
The meeting took place in a degraded woodland region close to the interstate boundary and was reportedly attended by officials, locals, and the CEM of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
The conflict started when forest officials from Assam stepped in to break up the gathering.
When the Assam forest team arrested one person from Meghalaya, Nareswar Timung, and took him to the Lokhora forest office to be questioned, the situation became more heated.
This was followed by a mob of individuals storming the forest office and physically assaulting the cops inside.
Situated on the outskirts of Guwahati, Garbhanga has long been a focal point in the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute.
