While opposition parties continue to raise strong objections to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Tripura’s regional party TIPRA Motha Party has demanded implementation of the same in Tripura.

A delegation from TIPRA Motha Party, led by party founder and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Debbarma, met with officials of the election commission of India in New Delhi on Wednesday to push for a Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls in Tripura.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Debbarma emphasized the urgency of the revision process in the state, citing concerns over illegal migration and its long-term impact on the indigenous population and demographic balance in the region.

He added that the delegation raised specific concerns about the unchecked inclusion of ineligible names in the voters’ list, which he claimed undermines the political rights of the indigenous people of Tripura.

According to Debbarma, the Election Commission assured the TIPRA Motha delegation that the Special Intensive Revision will be carried out nationwide, including in Tripura.

The party welcomed the assurance and said it would closely monitor the process to ensure transparency and fairness.

TIPRA Motha’s demand comes at a time when the exercise has become a politically contentious issue in Bihar, where opposition parties allege that the revision is being misused for political gains.
