Tripura: Rs 20 becomes suicide cause for a Teen; takes drastic step after facing theft accusations

Digital Desk: In a horrific occurrence, a 15-year-old student, Roni Das, allegedly killed himself after being accused of stealing Rs 20 in Surma, Dhalai district, Tripura.

Roni, a Class 10 student at Kamalpur XII School, was regarded to be an excellent student. According to sources, the incident occurred on Monday morning, September 1, in Kuchainala village, Kuchainala Panchayat. Roni had gone to a nearby shop with the Rs 20 supplied by his father, Jewel Das.

The shop owner accused him of taking money from the cash box and brought him behind the shop to his house, where Roni is reported to have been assaulted and ridiculed before being freed.

When Roni was missing from home after the episode, his father went looking for him.

Jewel Das hurried Roni to Kamalpur Hospital as soon as she learnt that he had eaten pesticide. He was first sent to Dhalai District Hospital and then to Agartala as his condition deteriorated. That same night, Roni died in spite of medical efforts.

He added that they also discovered a suicide note in which he denied stealing the money.

Along with the villagers, Roni's father went to Kamalpur Police Station on Wednesday, September 3, and filed a written complaint, calling for justice for the teen's untimely death.

The incident has shocked the local community, as many find it hard to believe that a young life was lost for as little as twenty rupees. The case is being investigated by authorities.
