USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque gets bail
Digital Desk: Mahbubul Hoque, the Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on Monday.
In a case involving alleged irregularities during the CBSE Class 12 Physics exam, Hoque was granted bail.
On Tuesday, however, a hearing is set for his bail application in a different matter.
Following a complaint in Patharkandi, Sribhumi district, accusing Hoque of planning a strategy to enable unfair means in the test, Assam police detained him on February 21.
According to the accusations, Hoque was paid to provide children taking the test at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sribhumi unfair benefits.
Claims that a financial agreement was made to help students from the ERD Group, who made up the bulk of examinees at the facility, are at the heart of the investigation.
In all, 274 students—45 from the host school and 214 from the ERD Group—took the physics exam at Kendriya Vidyalaya.
When the promised help did not come through, the situation reportedly descended into chaos, resulting in complaints that necessitated police intervention.
An investigation by the Assam police's special task unit revealed possible wrongdoing connected to the organization.
