Additional AG Vivek Sharma Takes Helm as new Chhattisgarh's Advocate General

Digital Desk: Ramen Deka, the Governor of Chhattisgarh, has selected Vivek Sharma, Additional Advocate General of the Bilaspur High Court, as the state's next advocate general.

The appointment, made by the Law and Legislative Affairs Department under Article 165(1) of the Constitution, would take effect immediately as Sharma takes office. As the state's chief legal officer, he will represent the Chhattisgarh government in the High Court and Supreme Court.

Sharma succeeds Prafull N. Bharat, a senior counsel with over 30 years of experience, who resigned from his position on Friday and was accepted with immediate effect.

Vivek Sharma, one of seven Additional Advocates General appointed in January 2024, is now handling the state's legal problems at the Bilaspur bench.

Details on his oath-taking ceremony and formal assumption of office are anticipated to be announced shortly.
