Digital Desk: Tragic! An Air India flight heading for London with 242 people crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday after takeoff.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has been reported to have been on board the Air India flight that crashed near Ahmedabad Airport.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flying as Flight AI171 to London Gatwick, was carrying 242 individuals—230 passengers and 12 crew members—when the incident occurred.
According to reports, Rupani was the 12th passenger on the list.
This is the last of ex-CM Vijay Rupani.

Vijay Rupani was Gujarat's former Chief Minister; he served his term from August 2016 until September 2021, stepping down before the 2022 state elections.
Eyewitness footage from the event revealed large plumes of black smoke pouring into the sky near the collision site. Emergency services rushed to the scene as officials assessed the extent of the damage and potential casualties.
Air India verified the event in an official statement: "Flight AI171, which operates Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, June 12, 2025. We are currently gathering information and will provide further updates as soon as possible."
